Townsend Things to Do
This may be the “peaceful side of the Smokies”, but it’s not the lazy side of the Smokies; unless you want it to be. You can enjoy a day at a museum or floating down the river. For the more adventurous, you can explore the nearby Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
A little known fact is that Townsend hosts several car shows each year. Each spring, the British Car Gathering brings together car enthusiasts from all over the world to show off their British vehicles and to have a good time.
In addition, the Ford Bronco Festival, the Spring Festival and Old Timers Day, and the Arts and Crafts Festival, all gather in Townsend each spring.
Music is central to mountain culture, and during the tourist season, you can visit the Pickin’ Porch each evening to hear the dulcimer and other instruments played by local artists.
Attractions | Townsend, unlike Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, does not have one attraction after the other. Having said that, Townsend does have a few attractions that we believe are worth your time.
Outdoor Adventure | Townsend was made for the outdoors. Late spring and summer are hopping with tourists heading to Little Pigeon River with their tubes. Cool off in the river or ride a horse in the mountains. Of course, you could just bring your bike and ride the paved bicycle trails through town.
