Why go: Climb into the driver’s seat of a real CAT excavator, swing a wrecking ball, crush a car flat with a pavement roller, and race siblings on actual heavy machinery at North America’s largest construction-based theme park.

About Dig’n Zone Theme Park

Dig’n Zone opened in March 2024 as a 27-acre, $25 million family-owned park built around a simple question: what if guests could operate the real construction equipment they have only ever seen from the cab of a passing car? The answer is a roster of more than 30 attractions where children and adults take the controls of genuine CAT and John Deere machinery that has been modified for guest safety while keeping the authentic feel of the machines.

The park is laid out so challenges progress in difficulty as visitors move through it. Almost every attraction is designed for head-to-head competition between two or more guests, with machines starting at the same time so siblings, parents, friends, and corporate teams can see who handles the joysticks best. A central Hard Hat Stage hosts live performances, school groups, and special events throughout the year, and the park’s Dig In Cafe, indoor arcade, and themed gift shop give visitors places to rest between sessions on the equipment.

Beyond the operable machines, the park displays a collection of vintage industrial equipment including the world’s largest tire, a CAT 992 bucket guests can stand inside, and several historic draglines and dump trucks for an industrial-museum feel along the perimeter.

Getting to Dig’n Zone Theme Park

Dig’n Zone sits just off Veterans Boulevard near LeConte Medical Center, a short detour off the main Sevierville Parkway corridor. From the Parkway, turn onto Veterans and the park entrance is on the right, marked by the construction-themed gates and the visible heavy equipment on the grounds. Free on-site parking is generous and paved, and the entire park is flat and stroller-friendly.

Why Choose Dig’n Zone Theme Park

Construction-based theme parks are rare in the United States, and Dig’n Zone is the largest of them. What makes it worth picking over the standard mountain-coaster and ride lineup is the combination of authentic equipment, a competition-driven layout, and a scale that gives families two to four hours of activity without the wait times typical of bigger theme parks.

  • Real equipment, not simulators. Guests operate genuine CAT excavators, skid steers, pavement rollers, and John Deere tractors that have been speed-limited and mechanically governed for safety but otherwise drive like the originals.
  • Built for head-to-head competition. Most attractions have two or more identical machines running side by side so siblings, parents, and corporate groups can race the clock and each other.
  • Short waits and a manageable footprint. Multiple stations per attraction and a 27-acre layout mean visitors rarely wait more than ten minutes for a turn and can comfortably see the park in an afternoon.
  • Family-owned with a clear focus. The park is run by its owners and a tight local staff, which shows up in attentive ride coaching and a consistent safety culture across attractions.
  • Smoky Mountains’ only construction theme park. Nothing else in the region or within a multi-hour drive offers the same experience, making it a strong differentiator on a Sevierville itinerary.

Must Do at Dig’n Zone Theme Park

More than thirty attractions are spread across the park, but a handful are the signature experiences that define the visit. These are the rides and stations regulars and reviewers consistently flag as the don’t-miss list.

  • The Decimator. A 50,000-pound CAT 320 excavator rigged as a spinning ride that lives up to its name. The signature thrill machine at the park.
  • Tumble Town. Take a CAT 301.5 excavator with a wrecking ball and knock down as many buildings as possible against a timer. The most-photographed station at Dig’n Zone.
  • The Crusher. Flatten an actual car with a pavement roller, then take home the crushed result along with an identical uncrushed model from the gift shop as proof.
  • Skid’n 2. Pilot a 6,500-pound CAT 236 skid steer around a track and learn why joystick-steered loaders are the most popular machines on real job sites.
  • Diggy’s Treasures Gem Mine. Mining-themed station where guests sluice for gems after a stop in the gift shop for mining equipment. A reliable hit with younger kids.
  • Diggy Bear Express. A guided tram ride that loops the park perimeter while the driver narrates the history and specs of the equipment on display.

What to Expect

Plan on two to three hours for a thorough visit. The park is mostly outdoors, so dress and weather planning matter, and the equipment-operation format means a few logistics are different from a standard theme park.

  • Height requirements vary by ride. Most attractions require a 42-inch minimum, with several taller machines requiring 48 to 52 inches. Younger children are welcome as lap riders on many attractions, but height matrices are posted at each station and worth checking on arrival.
  • Plan for sun and heat. The park is largely open and paved with limited shade. Hats, sunscreen, and water bottles are smart, especially during summer hours.
  • No outside food or drink. Sealed bottled water is the only exception. The on-site Dig In Cafe serves burgers, pizza, snacks, and a kids’ menu, with gluten-free and vegetarian options available.
  • Online tickets are recommended for busy days. Day passes can be bought at the gate, but the online booking flow at tickets.dignzone.com is faster on weekends, holiday weeks, and school breaks.
  • Waivers are required. All operators must complete a digital waiver via the park’s online system before getting behind the controls. Parents can sign for minor children.
  • Easy on mobility. Pathways are paved and flat, the main entrance is ADA-compliant with no steps, and there is accessible parking near the entrance. Strollers move through the park without issue.
  • Photos pay off. The signature attractions are visually striking, and the park layout is built around photo opportunities. Bring a phone or camera and budget time to capture them.
