About J.T. Hannah’s Kitchen

J.T. Hannah’s Kitchen takes its name and its look from a piece of Smoky Mountain history. J.T. Hannah ran the largest freight warehouse and stockyards in East Tennessee, taking in barrels of local beer and whiskey, produce farmed across the Southeast, cattle and hogs and chickens, and even Atlantic salmon under an exclusive distribution contract. He put up bunkhouses for his workers and added a lunchroom off the old icehouse, hired the best cook he could find, and started serving home cooked meals. Word spread, demand outgrew the warehouse, and around 1930 he closed the storerooms and opened the kitchen to the public full time.

The restaurant carries that story into the room. Walk in and you are surrounded by rustic decor and relics from the 1930s, laid out like the inside of a working warehouse, with mason jars standing in for glassware.

The menu is deliberately wide rather than specialized. Half pound Angus burgers, deluxe sandwiches, pasta, salads, hand battered chicken, seafood, and hand cut steaks all share the same card, alongside the house specialties the kitchen is known for. Gluten free options are marked throughout, and there is a separate kids menu. The bar runs a deep bourbon and whiskey list, a full Ole Smoky moonshine selection, cocktails built on it, draft and bottled beer, and wine by the glass.

Getting to J.T. Hannah’s Kitchen

J.T. Hannah’s Kitchen sits at 3214 Parkway, right in the middle of Pigeon Forge near traffic light number 6. Coming along the Parkway, it is the second building on the right once you pass through light number 6 and clear Pine Mountain Road. If you reach the Holiday Inn you have overshot it. Heading the other direction, make the U turn at light number 6 across from the Grand Hotel and Resort, then turn right into the parking lot. The large arrow sign out front is the landmark to watch for.

Why Choose J.T. Hannah’s Kitchen

The appeal here is range. This is the restaurant you pick when the group wants different things and nobody wants to compromise.

  • A menu that covers everyone. Burgers, ribs, pasta, salads, seafood, fried chicken, and hand cut steaks are all on the same page, which is rare on a strip full of specialists.
  • Gluten free marked in plain sight. Eligible items carry a symbol on the printed menu rather than requiring a conversation, though the kitchen notes fried items cannot be fully guaranteed.
  • A proper bar, not an afterthought. The list runs through bourbon, whiskey, gin, rum, tequila, and vodka, with the full Ole Smoky moonshine range and cocktails built around it.
  • Local and regional beer on draft. Alongside the national brands the taps carry a rotating Yee-Haw pour and a rotating seasonal.
  • A room worth looking at. The 1930s warehouse build out gives the meal a setting rather than just four walls.
  • Waitlist before you drive over. The restaurant runs an online waitlist, which is worth using in peak season.

Menu Favorites

The house specialties are where the kitchen puts its name on the line, and the burgers have their own following.

  • Slow Cooked St. Louis Ribs. Fresh pork ribs cooked low and slow under the restaurant’s own spice blend and a sweet and tangy sauce, served with baked beans and creamy coleslaw.
  • Tennessee T-Rex. A grilled twelve ounce hand cut rib eye topped with sauteed peppers, mushrooms, and onions, finished with fajita steak butter.
  • The Killin Me Burger. A full pound of Angus with American cheese, onion straws, lettuce, tomato, and 1000 Island on a brioche bun, and the biggest burger on the menu.
  • Smoky Mountain Grill. Grilled chicken breast under tangy BBQ sauce with smoked bacon and jack cheese.
  • Hannah’s Fried Pickle Chips. Dill pickle chips in seasoned cornmeal flour, golden fried and served with ranch.
  • Prime Rib French Dip. Shaved prime rib with grilled onions and melted Swiss on a French roll, served with au jus.
  • Deep Fried Mississippi Catfish. Domestic catfish fillets in seasoned flour with fries, coleslaw, tartar sauce, and a lemon wedge.
  • Mama Laura’s Strawberry Shortcake. The dessert the restaurant points guests toward by name.

What to Expect

A casual room that fills up fast in season, with a few practical details that shape the visit.

  • The kitchen runs late on weekends. Friday and Saturday service continues until 11:00 PM, which is later than much of the Parkway keeps its doors open.
  • Use the online waitlist. It is linked from every page of the website and will save you standing in the entry during the summer rush.
  • Large parties carry an automatic gratuity. An eighteen percent service charge is applied to parties of twelve or more.
  • Groups and private events are handled separately. The website keeps a dedicated page for group bookings and parties.
  • Steaks and burgers are cooked to order. The menu carries the standard advisory about undercooked meat, so state your temperature clearly.
  • Take out and delivery are not published. Neither is listed anywhere on the official site, so call the restaurant directly if you want a meal to go.
